Which is cheaper for a couple or a family?
For one adult we are £10.01 cheaper before postage. For two adults at the same address we cost £29.98 against their £40. An adult and a child cost about the same: £32.98 with us, £33 with them. For two or more children applying together, Deed Poll Office’s family rate is cheaper: £33 for two children against our £35.98.
Their family rate needs everyone to apply at the same time and live at the same address. Add postage to their totals: the free 2nd class option only covers orders of up to three sheets, including duplicates. Our child pack includes a consent letter for every person with parental responsibility; Deed Poll Office says it includes a cover letter explaining who has parental responsibility and who must consent. Read who must agree to a child’s name change before ordering from either of us.
How fast is each service?
Our PDF normally arrives by email within minutes of payment, and you can sign it the same day. Deed Poll Office aims to despatch online orders within two working days, or the same working day with its £4.50 priority service if you order by 3 p.m., and then the post takes one to five days depending on the class you choose.
Speed only matters if you have a deadline, such as a passport application. In that case, check what else the recipient needs: HM Passport Office and DVLA also ask for evidence of your new name in use. See how long a deed poll takes for the whole timeline.
Where does Deed Poll Office deserve credit?
It posts a professionally printed deed on security paper, sells cheap extra originals, keeps an optional archive for later replacements and takes orders by post or phone. It has operated since 2012, describes itself as a firm of paralegals, and publishes an unusually deep free library on name-change law, including court cases on children’s surnames.
Its application page also lists a personally written cover letter for record holders, emailed as a Word document, and, if requested, ordering a DVLA application form for you. If you want paper in the post, an archived copy or detailed reading on how courts decide a child’s surname, those are real advantages. We do not offer posted documents or a signed-document archive.

Where do we win, and when should you skip both?
We suit people who want to preview the document before paying, print at home today and pay less per adult. Optional notification letters cost £9.95, and our free organiser tracks who to tell. Skip both of us if a marriage certificate already covers your new surname, if you can copy the GOV.UK wording yourself, or if an organisation has asked specifically for an enrolled deed.
Deed Poll Office’s deed poll page says it is accepted by all banks. Published bank policies differ: Lloyds, Halifax and Santander ask for ID in the new name, such as a passport or driving licence, alongside an unenrolled deed (checked 31 October 2026). Our bank comparison links each bank’s own rules. For the free route, see the free deed poll template; for the full cost picture, how much a deed poll costs.
