Does paying more make a deed poll more valid?
The price does not change the legal effect. There is no legally prescribed form, paper, issuer or registry for a deed poll. What matters is the correct wording and proper signing as a deed: HM Passport Office accepts a dated deed with wet-ink signatures in both names and at least one witness. The GOV.UK model and our document use two adult witnesses, and GOV.UK warns that some organisations will not accept a deed poll if a witness lives at the same address or is a close relative. How do I compare the full price of two deed poll services?
Compare the same finished order: document preparation, delivery method, the number of signed originals you need and any optional extras. A downloadable PDF and a posted document are different services. Check the provider’s current checkout total and whether its delivery estimate starts when you order or when it dispatches.

How much does enrolment cost?
The court fee is £53.05 (GOV.UK, checked 5 October 2026). GOV.UK says enrolment can take several months and that you can ask the Deed Poll Office for an update 6 months after applying. Adult enrolment is for people aged 18 or over; a child’s deed poll has its own enrolment process, with the same £53.05 fee. It adds a permanent public record in The Gazette, not extra legal validity, so check whether your organisation requires it before paying.
GOV.UK notes that some banks or utilities may insist on an enrolled deed. Ask that organisation first. Full detail on enrolled vs unenrolled deed polls.
What other costs follow a name change?
Budget for replacement documents separately. A standard adult passport costs £102 online or £115.50 on paper; a child’s standard online passport costs £66.50. Different fees apply overseas and for urgent services. Check current GOV.UK passport fees before applying (checked 5 October 2026).
A straightforward name change on a GB driving licence is free. However, DVLA lists £17 if you also change the photograph, subject to its exemptions, or £20 if you cannot send the old licence because it was lost, stolen or destroyed. A CNI notice for marrying abroad is £46.50 per person in England and Wales from 6 April 2026 (SI 2026/233). Who should not pay us?
Anyone who can copy the government wording confidently should use the free template. Anyone taking a spouse’s surname using the marriage certificate does not need a deed poll at all. Anyone whose organisation has demanded High Court enrolment should follow GOV.UK, not buy a second PDF from us first.
